About Me

About Me and My Therapy Practice

Hello, I’m John Kinley, a BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with thousands of hours of experience supporting adults through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. I specialise in evidence-based online therapy, offering sessions via video, phone, or text so you can access support in a way that suits your life.

Clients often describe me as warm, supportive, and easy to talk to, while also appreciating that I’m clear, focused, and goal-oriented when needed. Once we agree on a goal, I’m committed to helping you work towards it with practical, research-informed strategies.

If you’d like to explore how I can support you, please [contact me] to arrange a free first session.

My Approach

I use an integrative, evidence-based approach tailored to you:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns.
  • Behavioural Activation to improve mood and motivation through structured actions.
  • Psychodynamic and person-centred principles to understand deeper patterns and relationships.
  • Solution-focused coaching to translate insight into clear, achievable steps.

My work is informed by ongoing research at the University of Oxford into planning strategies for mood and resilience. We’ll usually begin with what’s happening now, building practical tools for change, while also exploring how past experiences may be shaping the present.

Most clients start to notice positive shifts within the first month.

Who I Work With

I work exclusively with adults and support a broad range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety and related challenges
  • Low mood and depression (e.g., MDD, dysthymia, SAD)
  • Stress management and burnout
  • Anger and emotional regulation
  • Low self-esteem and confidence
  • Bereavement and grief
  • Men’s issues, including emotion regulation and relationships
  • Supporting women who struggle in relationships with men
  • Social Anxiety disorder, also called social phobia, a long-lasting and overwhelming fear of social situations.
  • Life fatigue: loss of motivation, enthusiasm, or direction

I work with self-funding clients, EAP referrals, and insurance-funded clients.

Fees, Insurance & Practicalities

What to Expect

Your first session (50 minutes) is free and low-pressure. You’ll set the pace while I ask focused questions to understand what’s going on for you. Together we’ll begin identifying patterns in thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. If helpful, I may share a simple, evidence-based technique for immediate insight or relief.

By the end, we’ll outline potential goals and a tailored plan. I’ll be honest about whether I’m the right person to help; if not, I’ll suggest alternatives that better fit your needs.

You can [contact me] any time to book your free first session.

I’ve worked in the UK NHS, delivering both long-term psychodynamic therapy and short-term targeted interventions within the IAPT programme in South London. I now work exclusively online, supporting clients across time zones and backgrounds. My specialist online-therapy training helps make video and text-based work safe, personal, and effective.
