About Me

John Kinley, BACP Accredited Counsellor & Psychotherapist

Alliance, Aviva, Axa, Bupa, Vitality, WPA health insurance recognised online psychotherapist

I am a degree qualified, BACP Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with extensive experience supporting adults through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges. I specialise in online therapy, offering sessions via video, phone, email or text to suit your needs.

Clients often describe me as warm, supportive and easy to talk to yet also direct and focused. Once we agree on a goal, I'm committed to helping you work towards it. I work integratively, drawing from person-centred therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy CBT, psychodynamic theory and solution-focused approaches to tailor treatment to your individual needs.

Our first session is free, a chance to explore what's brought you to therapy and see whether we are a good fit. You'll do most of the talking while I ask questions to understand your experience more fully. Together, well identify your goals and consider the most effective way forward. There's no obligation to continue unless it feels right for you.

We typically begin by addressing what's happening right now. Many clients arrive feeling anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted or stuck sometimes without knowing exactly why. We’ll focus on what can be shifted quickly to help you feel more in control, including any thoughts or behaviours running on autopilot. If the past is shaping the present, we can explore that too. By uncovering patterns that no longer serve you, we can design a more intentional path forward.

I work with a range of human experiences including:

  • Anxiety and related issues.
  • Depression and related issues including MDD, Dysthymia, SAD, Postpartum, and Atypical depression.
  • Low self-esteem and feeling down.
  • Stress management including sustainable routines, self-care and wellbeing.
  • Life fatigue including a lack of motivation, enthusiasm, drive and an unclear path forward.
  • Bereavement.
  • Men’s issues including, coping with emotions, anxiety, dating and life in the modern world.
  • I have also developed a client base supporting women who experience challenges in their relationships with men.

I work with adults, including those referred through employee assistance programmes, privately funded clients, and individuals referred by health insurance providers.

With multiple degrees, specialist postgraduate training, and thousands of hours of client work, I bring a depth of knowledge but more importantly, a real commitment to helping you make meaningful change.

Most clients start to notice positive shifts within the first month.

Work Experience

I worked for many years with the UK's National Health Service (NHS). I delivered long term psychodynamic therapy at St Pancreas Hospital and then later, in the Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies scheme delivering targeted, short-term, evidence-based therapies in South London.

I specialise in Online work as this allows me to reach and help a wide and diverse audience, without geography being a constraint.

I studied postgraduate to further specialise in Online therapies and coaching and have adapted my style to the video chat and text-based systems used online.

I have now worked with people across multiple continents, time zones, backgrounds, identities and presenting issues.
